I am interested in learning basic facts / prinicples of the Mormon culture. I am a social worker and recently met a family who is Mormon. I am not sure of a lot of the beliefs of this culture and want to make sure that I do not want to offend the family or assume […] (April 22, 2008, 4 comments)
When you confess your sins to the bishop do you have to give alot of details? Like, if you have had relations with your girlfriend once, do you just say you commited fornication, or do you have talk about the details of the encounter? (April 21, 2008, 4 comments)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints vs. the Polygamous FLDS Church. The FLDS Church has been in the news lately because of a recent raid on its polygamous compound in Eldorado, Texas. The FLDS Church is in no way affiliated with the mainstream, LDS (Mormon) Church. For 50 years in the 19th century, mainstream Mormons practiced a form of Christian polygamy. Because of threats from the […] (April 21, 2008, 5 comments)
Do you have any figures indicating what percentage of Mormon s voted for democratic candidates in 2000, 2004, and 2006? My son seems to think that there are virtually no Mormon democrats. Although I think the republicans are favored by a majority of Mormons, I can’t believe that there are no mormons who vote for democrats. (April 20, 2008, 5 comments)
I have been wanting to learn more about becoming a mormon. I am 15 years old and my family is not very religious. I have talked to my parents many times about this matter and they disapprove to it. I was wondering is there anything more I can do to let me learn? (April 19, 2008, 3 comments)
I was reading your answer about Mormonism and it stated that God said that having more than one wife was wrong in 1890. Had He said it was okay before that (as it would seem to be the case). Does that make God wrong? Does God make mistakes as we humans do? (April 19, 2008, 4 comments)
What I don’t understand is why other religions can be so rud e and critical of mormons. We haven’t done anything wrong. We believe what we want and they can believe what they want. Mormons respect others’ religions. Even those that seem extreme and false. Why do people find it so hard to respect us? (April 17, 2008, 2 comments)
I have recently gone through repentance (2 years ago) with t he help of my bishop and stake president. I still feel bad about my past sins. I was not disciplined in any way. I have felt “clean” until just a couple of months ago, when I started thinking about my past again. We have a […] (April 9, 2008, 5 comments)
Why does the Mormon Church teach that God has a body like ou r human bodies? For me, having a body means I am restrained by my physical strength, the speed with which my brain processes my surroundings, my emotions, etc. But obviously God is not like this at all. If he does have a body, […] (April 7, 2008, 1 comment)
Free MP3: “Come, Come Ye Saints” The words of the famous Mormon hymn “Come, Come Ye Saints” were written by the Mormon poet William Clayton on April 15, 1846. After having fled state-authorized genocide in Missouri several years earlier, as well as the mobocracy of Illinois, thousands of Mormons found themselves in the wilderness, on the trail to their new desert […] (March 31, 2008, 1 comment)
How can we answer people who ask the question: “How do Mormo ns know when the Bible is correct and when it is not?” For some people it seems that Mormons only disagree with the Bible when it contradicts Mormonism. Can you help? (March 30, 2008, 1 comment)
I read that Joseph Smith stated in “Lectures of Faith” that God was a spirit, that Jesus was a tabernacle of clay and the Holy Ghost was the mind of both, or something like that. Could you explain the God is a spirirt part or all of it? (March 30, 2008, 2 comments)
I am 16, and I am or was a christian. I have asked God to co me into my life many, many times and every time I screw it up by falling away from God. This last time I feel as though I screwed it up terribly. I cursed God the Father, the Son, and even […] (March 20, 2008, 8 comments)
I am very interested in how different people with different religions live their life. I don’t know much about Mormons outside of the few videos I’ve seen about Mormon families, the way they live, what values they teach their children, etc. It fascinates me. I’d like to meet with Mormon representatives, but I’m not interesting […] (March 16, 2008, 2 comments)
I confessed my sins to my bishop after returning to activity . I was never active since baptism as a teenager. I felt really bad so he suggested that I see my stake president. He asked me if I committed each of the sins and I answered yes or no. He then told me that the […] (March 13, 2008, 5 comments)
Free MP3: “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief” James Montgomery penned the hymn “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief” in 1826, set to the tune of George Coles’ “Duane St.” It was Joseph Smith’s favorite hymn; in fact, John Taylor sung it to him in Carthage Jail just before he was murdered by a bigoted mob. The hymn preaches a powerful sermon; kindness […] (March 10, 2008, 3 comments)
Spiritual Experiences in Mormonism. Hi friends. Today I’m blogging from the heart of Torrey Pines State Park, sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The scene before me now is probably one of the top 10 most beautiful natural scenes I’ve ever witnessed. The beauty of God’s creations is astounding. I want to write briefly […] (March 10, 2008)
What is a priesthood blessing in mormonism? Are there differ ent Aaronic and Melchisadec blessings? How are they alike or different from priestly blessings from Cohanim in Judaism or blessings in Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican Christianity? Thank you and God bless. (March 9, 2008, 2 comments)
I am coming back to church and asking God for forgiveness. M y life isn’t so good because I broke the law of chastity. I’ve cried and cried and I’ve asked God and Jesus Christ for forgiveness, but will He listen or has He gotten tired of seeing me going back to my sins? How can […] (March 3, 2008, 5 comments)
Ive been studying the LDS scriptures to support my critisizm towards the church. My studies seem to be taking a different turn than what I expected. I find myself believing in what I’m learning. Does this happen to alot of people? (March 3, 2008, 3 comments)
Free MP3: “The Spirit of God” Hi friends. I recently composed an arrangement of the Mormon hymn “The Spirit of God,” by William W. Phelps. “The Spirit of God” was sung at the dedication of the Kirtland temple in 1836 and was included in the first Mormon hymnal. To this day it is one of the most beloved hymns of the […] (March 2, 2008)
Anti-Mormon Bigotry Once Again. Part of being Mormon is being persecuted for Christ’s sake. As Mormons, we should never adopt a victim attitude. We should have confidence that God will be with us. However, studying and recognizing the anti-Mormon bigotry that exists in the world is productive. We should be aware of what we face, and we should let […] (February 4, 2008)
Interesting Mormon Trivia #1. I recently bought two very entertaining books about Mormonism: “The Skousen Book of Mormon World Records” and “Brother Paul’s Mormon Bathroom Reader.” These books are full of little-known Mormon trivia. I thought I’d occasionally list some of the interesting Mormon facts I’ve learned. Hope you enjoy! The famous 19th-century criminal Butch Cassidy grew up in […] (February 4, 2008, 1 comment)
