All About Mormons

At the age of 17 I was asked by my LDS Sunday School teacher to give a talk the next Sunday on Moroni Chapter 10 verses 4 & 5 in the Book of Mormon. I had read a good portion of the book in Seminary and knew about these verses, yet I had never pondered and asked as Moroni has recommended. I spent the week preparing by reading in the Book of Mormon. I had felt the Spirit many times in my life and knew the goodness of it, but I wasn’t sure what to expect by the Witness of the Holy Ghost that Moroni promised. On Saturday, I was the only one at home for the afternoon. I used the time to kneel and pray. I expressed my situation to my Heavenly Father, that I could not very well tell others about these verses in Moroni, unless I had tried them for myself. I believed Jesus Christ and had faith that I could ask the Father in his name and receive an answer. I really believed that the Book of Mormon was His word as well as the Bible; I just did not know for sure. I wanted a witness from God.

After praying for what seemed a long time, my mind began to be filled with thoughts and ideas for my talk. I began to write about the things I am telling you here. The words kept flowing and I knew the Spirit was giving me the things that I should write. I was so filled with happiness that I began to cry. I knew that this was God’s witness to me about the Book of Mormon, that it is His word through His ancient prophets of the New World. The beauty of that experience remains with me today, 37 years later.

Over the years I have asked many things of the Father, in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and have received answers. I am grateful that I have been given the Gift of the Holy Ghost which gives me utterance and guidance as I need it. I know that this Gift is only available through His true priesthood holders, even though everyone can experience the witness and blessings of the Holy Ghost. The Gift of the Holy Ghost has worked with me to sanctify me by showing me my sins and weaknesses, to teach me line upon line, to give me patience and strength during trials. It has lifted me from depression. It has warned me of evils. It has caused that I should be born again as a new creature in Christ. It has born witness of the Word of God through the Bible and other scriptures and of the prophets of the last days, such as Joseph Smith and Gordon B. Hinckley.

I especially am thankful that Our Heavenly Father loves us and bears witness of Jesus Christ and of salvation through Him. The witness is also of Christ’s Church with all of these blessings that I have mentioned and many more.
