What it's like to attend a Mormon worship service
Hi friend. How wonderful that you're interested in learning more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I've been a member of this church all my life, and it's been a great blessing. I'm happy to answer your question.
In our church, we have no professional clergy. Consequently, regular members are called upon to preach sermons in our meetings. The best talks of course teach about Jesus Christ. He is the central figure in our theology, our Redeemer and Savior. Other sermons describe methods we can use to draw closer to Christ, including prayer, scripture study, and other important practices. People often tell personal stories to illustrate gospel principles through experiences and allegories.
There are, of course, advantages to having a professional clergy. Sermons tend to be more "polished" when given by professionals. However, I prefer the mormon modus operandi. Asking regular members of the congregation to preach does a lot to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the members of the congregation often have an easier time relating to the speaker, since they too are just regular members.

I have spoken in church many times in my life, in fact I have the opportunity to speak several times each year. Here are a few of the topics I have covered recently:
You are always welcome to join one of our meetings to hear the messages. As someone else mentioned, we are not professional speakers or clergy. We have no professional training on how to prepare a sermon, but we accept the assignment and try to prepare messages to uplift others and help them draw closer to Christ.
