I am wirting a paper about Mitt Romney and how being a Mormon will affect him in the candidacy. What are your views on this? Please I just need your opinion if you are an active member of LDS.

Hi friend. Very interesting topic. I think there are some people who will not vote for Mitt Romney because he is Mormon. Unfortunately, there's a long history of anti-Mormonism in the United States. However, I think most people are reasonable and will judge Mr. Romney and other notable Mormon politicians on their records and ideas. Each will decide whether or not his vision for America best matches their own.

It's not clear to me whether or not it would be good for the LDS ("Mormon") Church if Mitt Romney became president. On one hand, the number of offensive anti-mormon jokes and activities would almost certainly increase. On the other hand, more people will be interested in understanding what Mormons really believe, which could lead to greater tolerance. We'll have to see what happens. Thanks for your question.

I think your best source for information about our teachings is found at http://mormon.org/.

You could also track down your local missionaries, and they could explain first hand how they feel it will affect his candidacy.

My thoughts are that we want someone in the presidency who is God fearing, honest, has the best interest of the United States, Wants world peace, wants to alleviate poverty by helping people help themselves. All these things are beliefs we have. We promise to be better husbands/wives, fathers/mothers, citizens and law abiding citizens. That's what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (AKA Mormon Chruch) teaches.
