Webmaster, I’m a convert and want to get married in the temple, but my family are not members. I’ve heard that a type of ceremony can be held outside the temple for the family, but that it shouldn’t be too elaborate. Is there some kind of guideline for this? Thanks for your help!

Hi friend. Congratulations on your recent baptism! I hope you find the same joy in the church that I have found. It's wonderful to be a member of this church.

If you plan to be married in the temple but have family members who are not members of the church, I encourage you to have some sort of ceremony outside the temple to include them. Aside from a reception, which is pretty standard in Mormon culture, you can also have a ring ceremony or something similar outside the temple. If you like, I bet you could even use the cultural hall of your local Mormon chapel. I think any ceremony outside the temple should not overshadow the sacred temple ordinance, but I'm certain you can still make the occasion very special for your non-Mormon relatives. I suggest you talk with your bishop or branch president for more details. Best of luck!

I will probably have the same circumstance as you, since I'm a convert with an all-Catholic family and my boyfriend's family is all LDS, so I have already done a little research about it. ;)

Here is an article that may help:

Good luck! ^_^
