Been watching the news recently? Lots of floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, famine around the world.... See all those people rushing to the aid of God's children? That is where fast offereing money goes too.

Tithing on the other hand goes to all those new, beautiful temples being built around the wolrd. As well as all the new buildings and chapels for church use, we have the missinoary funds that go to missionaries, I believe mainly supplies for missionaries to do what they are called to do, but I don't know all the details on that one.

There are also a bunch of other activities out there that are paid by the verious church donations. I can think of a few like the upkeep of "This is the place" monument, "the mormon miracle" padgent down in Manti UT, "the sacred grove", "restored navoo", "the Hill Comorah" padgent, as well as activites held in areas, branches, wards, and stakes the world over.

The types of tithing and other offerings as shown on the church's tithing form are as follows:

Tithing = used for most everything that the church has need for: construction of buildings, repairs, upkeep, buying property for buildings, and anything else, manuals, chairs, etc.. This is the largest category and overlaps some of the others.

Fast offerings - offerings given equal to or usually a little more than the cost of food for the time spent fasting = these funds go to the church's wellfare program to help those in need

Ward missionary = these funds are paid for a member of the ward that is on a mission, usually by the person or their parents, currently about $400 a month for the two years.

General missionary = these funds go to either missionaries that cannot afford missions, such as those from poor contries; and helps support those out in the field. "...Used at the church's sole discretion in its missionary program." Bottom of the tithe slip

Book of Mormon = goes to printing the Book of Mormon to allows the church to afford to keep giving them away for free.

Humanitarian aid = self explainitory, the church has many humanitarian projects worldwide, wheelchairs for handicap, fresh water, etc.

Temple construction = goes to the building of temples, those near where new temples are build usually would like to offer some funds for the temple

Perpetual education = the church has many outreach programs to teach those in third-world contries basic education, medical personel for poor communities that suffer from plagues and outbreaks, and other beneficial skills

Other (specify) = this is used for things such as paying for camp for the girls and scouts. Also at my specific church the men were asked if they could repay the cost of the manuals, since they were only a couple dollars since we are more well off then other areas and don't need them for free. Anything can really go her.
