Thou shall keep the Sabbath day holy. How many members (who are parents) let their daughter/son play club sports on Sunday? Yes or no?

As you suggest, keeping the Sabbath day holy is an important commandment, so important that it was included among the 10 commandments God gave to Moses. The details regarding how to best keep the Sabbath day holy have changed since Old-Testament times; now that the Law of Moses has been fulfilled, many of the Old-Testament minutiae are no longer required. Keeping the Sabbath day holy, however, continues to be important, as are each of the other nine commandments given to Moses on Sinai.

Recommended ways to keep the Sabbath day holy include Church attendance and resting from work and commerce, expect when the "ox is in the mire" (i.e. except when work is absolutely necessary, or when commerce is unavoidable). Beyond basic recommendations like these, it is largely up to the individual to decide how to best keep the Sabbath day holy. Some ideas include doing service, meditating, and reading the scriptures.

I think that most practicing Mormons would choose not to play club sports on Sunday, but the decision to play really lies with the individual. I recommend prayer as a way of discovering God's will for your specific case.

The prophet Spencer W. Kimball counseled: "The sabbath is a holy day in which to do worthy and holy things. Abstinence from work and recreation is important but insufficient. The sabbath calls for constructive thoughts and acts, and if one merely lounges about doing nothing on the sabbath, he is breaking it. To observe it, one will be on his knees in prayer, preparing lessons, studying the gospel, meditating, visiting the ill and distressed, sleeping, reading wholesome material, and attending all the meetings of that day to which he is expected. [Failure] to do these proper things is a transgression on the omission side. "

Ultimately it is the choice of the parent unless it prevents the child form attending church, the sacrement is one of the most important ordinances to you, or fufilling other duties.

I, myself, in all my years of club sports chose not to play on any of the Sunday games that came up.

The light of Christ is given to every person that enters this world. Most people know this light as a conscience.

In keeping the Sabbath day holy I think that we all should be wise to let the light of Christ direct us as to what we should or should not do on a the Sabbath. Knowing of course we are all agents unto ourselves and we will stand accountable for all the choices we make and don't make in this life.

Thank heaven for our Savior Jesus Christ who can make up the difference when we just don't know.
