Hi. My name is Santiago Olivera. I’m from Peru, and I’ve been going to the Mormon church for a while now. I like it a lot, and they want me to be baptized. But I think I just want to continue being a member. I’m not sure what to do. Should I be baptized? Thanks for your help.

Jesus Christ was Himself baptized in the Jordan river to provide an example for each of us. (Reflections of Christ)
Hi Santiago. If I understand correctly, you've been going to church with the missionaries and are thinking about being baptized. You're wondering if baptism is the right decision.

Just to clarify, a person officially becomes a member of the church once they are baptized. Prior to baptism, a person who visits our church is called an "investigator."

Baptism is a very important ordinance. Jesus himself was baptized in order to set an example for us. Christ taught the baptism symbolizes a new commitment with God. When we enter the waters of baptism, we symbolically leave our old self there in the water. When we exit the water, we symbolically begin a new life dedicated to Christ. Baptism is a beautiful symbol of our Christian faith.

If you have faith in Christ, and if you are ready to dedicate your life to Him through faithful and regular participation in His restored church, I encourage you to join the church officially through baptism! It's a beautiful ceremony and commitment that will enrich your spiritual life.
