A year ago I was sealed to my wife, and I promised to be faithful in every way. Today I’m so troubled, desperate, and in urgent need of your help. My wife wants to leave me because I was intimate with her when she didn’t want it. I’m so sorry for what I’ve done! She doesn’t want to listen to me or give me a chance. What should I do?

Hi friend. Forcing someone to have undesired sexual relations is a very, very serious sin, even in the context of marriage. Marriage does not authorize rape. It's not hard to understand why your wife would think about separation in such a situation. Both men and women have a right to feel safe in their own homes and in their own marriages.

I suggest you talk with your bishop about this. First, you should confess your sin to him so you can begin the repentance process. Second, he may be able to give you some inspired counsel. Perhaps he could converse with your wife to get her perspective as well. It's a terrible tragedy when a marriage comes to an end, especially a marriage that has been sealed in the Holy Temple.
