Reading this page I realized that when someone’s spouse dies, they can remarry or even be sealed in the temple a second time. Isn’t that bigamy? Can you explain?

Hi Daniela. Bigamy is when one person is married to more than one spouse at the same time. You seem to be confusing sealing with marriage. Though the two are similar in some ways, they are not in fact the same thing. Unlike a sealing, a marriage occurs only between two people and is valid only in this life. In contrast, a husband and wife can be sealed for all eternity to each other, to their children and all their descendents, and to their parents and all their ancestors. The ultimate goal is to seal the whole human family together, all the way back to Adam. As the goal is to seal all of humanity together, it should come as no surprise that a widower can be sealed to a second spouse. In contrast, any Mormon found to be married to more than one person at the same time is excommunicated and cannot return to the church until they put their personal life in order and repent.
