Hi all. I have some questions about missionary work. I’ve been an investigator for some time and I really love everything about this religion! I’m getting ready to be baptized in a week, and I’ve thought a lot about serving a full-time mission. I’m almost 26 years old, though. Is there an age limit? How long after I’m baptized do I have to wait before I can serve? Thanks for your answers.
Hi Miguel! How wonderful that you're going to become a member of the church! I've been a member my whole life, and it's been a great blessing. If you really dedicate yourself to the development of your inner spiritual life, I'm certain you'll also receive powerful blessings as a Mormon Christian. I get so excited when I hear about investigators joining the church!
It's noble that you want to serve a mission. I'm certain God will honor you for your willingness to serve. However, the maximum age for missionary service is 26, and new members spend a year preparing before they can serve missions. Consequently, I don't think full-time missionary service will be possible in your case, at least not until you retire and decide to serve as a couple missionary with your wife! :)
I know this news might be disappointing, but know that there is a lot of work that needs to be done in the church, and you don't have to be a full-time missionary to help. Soon after your baptism, talk with your bishop about getting a "calling" in the church. You can also do missionary work part-time by simply talking with your friends about the gospel or discussing the gospel on the Internet. For example, you can answer people's questions about the church on this very site.
