Is it true that Mormons teach that women should submit to their fathers and brothers when they’re single, and to their husbands when they’re married?

Hi friend,

It is not right to say that women must submit to their father, brother, and husband. It is true that God, for reasons known to Him, has chosen to restrict his priesthood to men only, but this priesthood makes men servants, not masters, of women. Any man who tries to coerce women, who tries to make them submit to him, is not worthy of the priesthood of God (D&C 121:37). To learn about how men should correctly use the priesthood, read Elder Scott's recent talk entitled "Honor the Priesthood and Use It Well."

According to the divinely inspired doctrine of the Church, men and women have equal value in the eyes of God. One is not better than the other.
