Hi friend. I confess that I'm not sure what you mean by "respect the American flag." I'm guessing you have confused Mormons with Jehovah's Witnesses. My understanding is that Jehovah's Witnesses do not salute the American flag because they see that as a form of idol worship.
Mormons do not hold this view. We see the American flag as a national symbol, not a false idol. American Mormons typically salute the flag and say the pledge of allegiance like most other Americans. One of our Articles of Faith states, "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rules, and magistrates..."

Absolutely. LDS folks are some of the most patriotic people you can find in our country. Most LDS boys grow up with scouting, which teaches, among other things, to be patriotic and have respect not only for our country, but for our flag.

All questions were answered satisfactorily in previous responses. I just wanted to clarify one thing that was said incorrectly about Jehovah's Witnesses:
The reason Jehovah's Witnesses do not salute the flag is because they believe in being in the world, but not of the world. Since countries are a worldly thing, they do not salute the flag. It has nothing to do with idol worship.

Webmaster: Thanks for the clarification, Mark!
