Through prayer, we can communicate with our Heavenly Father. He’s anxious to guide and help us.
Hi friend. God usually tailors His response to each individual. For some people, God's response is like a peaceful, reassuring feeling. For others, it's like an epiphany or a "quickening of the mind," as Joseph Smith put it. It can be difficult to describe, but it's very identifiable when it happens.

Lots of people expect answers to their prayers immediately, but true communication with God usually requires some spiritual effort. The key is to keep studying, pondering, and praying for your answer. Meeting with Mormon missionaries and visiting the chapel regularly can also help you get in the right state of mind. In time, your answer from God will come.

I've written more about this elsewhere, if you'd like more information. I hope this answer helps!
