I'm happy that you're considering writing your thesis on Mormonism! In the past few years there's been an explosion in the academic study of the LDS Church. Several secular universities have established courses or chairs in Mormon studies, and a number of excellent publications have recently been produced. It's a very exciting time to be studying Mormonism!
If you do decide to pursue Mormonism as your thesis topic, feel free to send me any questions you might have. I'd be happy to send comments/suggestions. I'm actually working on planning my own thesis right now, though I'm a biologist, not a sociologist.
