I am Mormon and my boyfriend is catholic, we have two kids together and have been together on and off for many many years we are ready to get married but I am so worried about not getting married in the temple and not getting sealed to my kids. What are my consquences if I marry him and can I never get sealed to my kids?

Hi friend. Congratulations on your wedding plans. Given that you have two children together, I think your decision to marry is a good one. Children deserve to have a mother and a father who are legally married. I think your concerns about sealing are valid, but the overwriting issue here needs to be the welfare of your children.

I definitely would not give up on your dream of being sealed to your family, though. That's an excellent goal. Often times when people go through big changes in their lives, they turn to God. This is especially true of marriage, since many recognize that religious unity can do a lot to strengthen a husband and a wife. Have you talked to your boyfriend much about the Church? Does he know how much you would like to be sealed? I think it would be a great idea to chat with him about these things and to invite him to investigate the church further. Perhaps you could invite the missionaries over to your house to talk about the gospel. There's no greater blessing than having a family united in their faith of Jesus Christ.
