The San Diego temple in San Diego, California.
One of the beautiful blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that our future can be unspoiled by our previous mistakes. Certainly the fact that you once had an addiction will not prevent you from having a temple recommend. Even if you still feel the effects of addiction, that is no sin. As long as you have repented and ceased acting on the desires for illicit drugs (even if that pull is still there), your past mistake will not stop you from being worthy of the temple! Your bishop can help the Lord to extend His mercy and love for you. If you have not already discussed the issue with him, I'd recommend meeting with your bishop and being open about the situation. It can be a scary thing to do, but will be an opportunity to help with the process of giving your burden to the Lord. You need your bishop's help, and the Lord is anxious to bring you continued peace and healing. The Savior loves you infinitely, completely, and unfailingly!

I think it is comforting to have this council: "In the sight of the Lord, it is not so much what we have done or where we have been but much more where we are willing to go" (Edward Dube, "Look Ahead and Believe" Oct. 2013 General Conference).

Don't give up! Temple marriage is the greatest goal that we can strive towards in this life!
