I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I have been called as a branch president, but I feel bad because recently I fell into a transgression. My students here in Huancavelica participated in a public event, and the organizer of the festival publicly gave us a case of beer (just to me). I feel bad, because within seconds I could not say no. Although I did not drink even a drop of the beer, I feel troubled for accepting it on behalf of my students. I should have said “no thanks,” but it’s done and I can’t change what happened. I need someone to advise me. Do I need to have an interview with one of my leaders?

Hi friend. I can tell you have a very good heart! You're going to be an excellent branch president. It sounds to me like the person who gave you a bottle of alcohol didn't give you time to think about it. When we are handed something, it's our automatic reaction to take it. If you'd had time to think about it, I'm sure you would have chosen differently. We only sin when we choose to act contrary to God's will, so I don't think you've committed any sin, as long as you didn't choose to drink any of the alcohol. God bless you in your new calling, president!
