Hi. My boyfriend will leave on his mission in a few months. I’m not a member, but I know that it’s something he really wants to do. I support him and am proud of him.

I am a little bit nervous, though, because I won’t see him in these two years. How can I maintain our relationship? Any advice you have would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi friend. I'm happy you want to support your missionary boyfriend. Missions are wonderful, but they are also very challenging, so he could certainly use your help.

It can be difficult to maintain a relationship over a long distance. I encourage you to write letters to your missionary boyfriend every week. Send him scriptures from the Bible that you think he'll find helpful. Tell him that you support him in his work.

I also encourage you to learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Your boyfriend will grow spiritually on his mission. It's important that you grow with him. Unity and faith is, as you know, very helpful in a marriage.

If you really love him and know he is the right young man for you then continue to support him and yes learn about our church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It will help strengthen your relationship as well as bring blessings into your life.
