Hi all. I would like to know if it’s possible for a person to be in love with two different people at the same time. I’m not talking about polygamy; I know that’s not something we practice. I’m just curious if it’s possible. And if so, is liking two people at the same time bad? Can such a person continue in the church? Just to clarify, this is not happening with me personally. I’m just curious. Thanks.

Hi Tyrone. This is really a cultural question rather than a doctrinal question. In most Latin American countries, a man and woman decide to date exclusively from the first day. In the United States, men and women do not date exclusively from the first day. A man typically spends time with many different women to try to get to know as many as possible. He may even be romantically interested in several different women at the same time. Eventually, a man and woman who already know each other well may choose to date exclusively. This kind of exclusive dating may eventually lead to marriage.

As different members of the church have different cultural practices, I think the church doesn't have a specific policy regarding the possibility of simultaneously falling in love with two people.
