Did we live in families before we were born? I mean, were we in family units with the people in our immediate families here on earth?

The concept of a united family that lives and progresses forever is at the core of Latter-day Saint doctrine.
Hi Julieta. An immediate family begins when a man and a women get married. Thus, immediate families begin in this life and can continue after death through the sealing ordinance. However, before we came to earth, we all lived together as one human family.

Some Mormons believe that they were "predestined" to marry a certain person since before the earth was created. These members may believe they somehow lived with their future spouse as husband and wife before they were born. This idea is not doctrinal. President Spencer W. Kimball taught that God does not generally choose a single person for us. When looking for a spouse, we should look for someone who loves the gospel and has a personality compatible with our own. In most cases, many people meet that criteria. For the vast majority of people on earth, God has not predestined us to marry a single, specific person. Hope this answer helps.

We did not live in family units as we know them here in mortality. The purposes for coming to earth was to gain a mortal body and to form families. We were and are all part of our Heavenly Parents' family as we are all their spiritual children. One revealed goal in this life is to form a family, have your marriage sealed for eternity and then have the same blessings for your children as well as your parents. We are told that it will be in our individual, sealed families that we can return and live with our Father in Heaven again and progress further.
