Is it okay to use marijuana to heal the body, mentally and spiritually? Marijuana helped me recover my faith in God. What can you tell me about that? My life is based in Rastafarian culture, and I’d like to join the Mormon church. Thanks.

Hi Cedrick. I'm happy you're interested in learning more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love being a member of this church. It's helped me grow closer to God. I hope you find the same peace in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
For members of the church, Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer through whom salvation is made possible. (Reflections of Christ)
I'm happy Rastafarianism has helped you spiritually. I'm sure that there are many good and true principles taught in Rastafarianism that would help enhance your faith in Jesus Christ, should you choose to join the "Mormon church."

With all due respect (and I mean that sincerely), spirituality based on any kind of chemical substance (drug), independent of its source, is not well founded. Drugs can alter our perception in ways that are not consistent with reality. Some drugs cause visual or auditory hallucinations. Other drugs can cause spiritual hallucinations--experiences that seem spiritual but are in fact entirely independent of the feelings and impressions that God might send us. Spiritual feelings should come from God, not from a pill or a plant. Fortunately, Mormon Christianity has helped millions of people attain greater spirituality directly from God. I'm certain it could help you as well!

The LDS Church teaches that its members should not use marijuana for recreational purposes. I don't believe the church has a position regarding the medicinal use of marijuana. You should consult with the Bishop or branch president of your local Mormon congregation to see how they feel about medical marijuana. In my opinion, if medical marijuana is legal in your area, and if a responsible doctor prescribes it for one of the few conditions known to benefit from marijuana use, and if other drugs that do not alter mental state to the same degree have been tried and failed, then perhaps medical marijuana use would be acceptable. Again, though, I think your local bishop could provide more specific counsel tailored to your circumstances.
