I’ve been inactive for about 3 years. During this time, I started going to another church. I also had a child out of wedlock. My question is, what should I do now that I’m no longer with the mother of my child and there’s no way we can ever be together again? Can I come back to the church?

For Mormons, Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer through whom salvation from sin is made possible. (Reflections of Christ)
Hi friend. Thanks for your question. You should continue to support your child both financially and emotionally as any father should, even if you are no longer romantically involved with your child's mother. Only a coward does not care for his own children as best he can.
It's excellent that you want to come back to the church. You've obviously violated some of God's commandments and need to apply Christ's atonement in your life to recover your previous spirituality. Your bishop can certainly help you with that process. With his help, I'm certain you'll one day be able to again enjoy all the blessings that come from being a fully active, consecrated member of the church. I love this scripture written by the prophet Isaiah: "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18). Through Christ, I know repentance and complete recovery are possible.

If you need further help, you could also request some visits from the missionaries in your area. Please also let me know if there's anything more I can do to assist you. Best of luck.
