Hi, my name is Sol. I’m 35 years old and I’ve been a member of the Mormon Church since I was eight years old. My husband was baptized a year after we married. Today we are inactive, and we have a little son, four years old. I believe in God and Jesus Christ, even though I’ve lost faith in religions. It’s very hard to have so many doubts. I need a place where I can go to church and I want my child to know God, but I’ve lost my testimony. Once upon a time I felt strong in the Church, but I need to know for sure that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, because if this belief is false, I can’t believe the church is true. I hope God answers my prayers. Thanks for your willingness to help.

Hi Sol. Thanks for your recent email. I'm sorry to hear that you're currently less active in the church. Sister, sometimes we feel a pressure to instantaneously have a perfect knowledge of every aspect of the gospel. However, it is not necessary to have a testimony of every gospel principle to go to church and to be a faithful Mormon. It is only important that we are trying our best to understand the gospel. God will accept our sacrifice as long as we're trying our best.
You've made a decision to stop going to church because you don't have a strong testimony. This step was not necessary. You are still welcome to worship with us, sister. Your desire to help your child know God is very noble. It's important to have a church community. By going to church, studying scriptures, praying regularly, etc., your testimony will eventually grow. There's no rush, sister. Just do what you can to grow spiritually. God only expects you to do your best.
It's important to recognize, too, that there are many secular blessings associated with Church participation too. While you're in the process of developing your testimony, you can also be enjoying the other blessings that come from the Mormon life style.
