Last year I accepted Christ into my life and my heart, but I was already in a relationship with a man who I consider to be my husband. I would really like to be officially married to him so I can serve God, but he doesn’t have his paperwork in order and doesn’t have the money to travel to his country to resolve the problem. It’s hard for him to get the money together because to work he needs the same paperwork. Do you have any advice?

Hi sister. It's excellent that you found the church and want to be able to participate fully. You're right that it's important to legally marry. Have you spoken with your bishop about this? I don't know what kind of work your significant other does, but I wonder if some of the members of your ward might be able to give him some employment ideas. That way he could earn the money he needs to get his paperwork in order.

Anyway, it's definitely worth chatting with your bishop about this. Explain that you want this help to be able to get married and then baptized. Hopefully the two of you will be able to think of a solution together. Best of luck to you!
