I was a true believer in the doctrine. Today is October 17, 2012, I have to leave. I have to find solace in the faith that I have gained through my church and acknowledge that they as a whole have failed me. It has been agonizing to be in the company of those who know that one man of our faith has been so dishonest, who has so dreadfully and repeatedly committed acts that go against all we are taught and believe and value. I personally know this man, his summer home is in my parents place of residence. I know this man dishonest, infidelity to all those around him and his church. I know to watch this man that has put himself on a pedestal. I can only find solace that I am a faithful believer with all my heart and soul and that I must leave the church. I am truly embarrassed by this man and mortified that this man has not been excommunicated from our church.

Hi friend. Thanks for the message you recently posted on my site. Let me be blunt: it is foolish to leave the church because of a mere human being. We go to church because of our dedication to God. Of course there are bad people in the church. There are bad people in every church and every organization on planet earth. We can't let the bad decisions of others lead us to make bad decisions of our own. Being a true disciple of Jesus Christ means doing the right thing even when it's hard, independent of any external factor, including annoying members of the church like the man you described.

At the last day, when God asks you why you didn't honor His request to worship Him in the Church He has gone to extraordinary efforts to restore, do you really think He will accept "there was this really troubling man in the church" as a valid excuse? He'll expect personal responsibility and dedication even in the face of adversity. That's why He sent us here to earth in the first place. To be tested and to prove our dedication.

Please understand that I don't mean to be rude. I just mean to be blunt because I want to help you. I hope my efforts aren't misplaced.

If anything, you should stay in the church because it seems the church in your area is in need of good people. Have you tried talking with your bishop or stake president about this issue? Perhaps he could help you. Best of luck.
