Hi brothers and sisters. I have a girlfriend, and we are both active members of the church. We’ve done the best we can to be righteous, but in certain occasions I feel sexually attracted to her, but it never goes beyond that. I some times ask myself if that’s wrong? I’ve read on the Internet that it’s a normal part of human dating, but I really don’t care what people think. I want to know what this Lord thinks!

Is it wrong to feel this way about her? I’m attracted not only to her inner beauty and spirituality, but also to her body. Is that wrong?

A few months ago we went too far with our kisses, kissing on the neck and ears. We felt bad about it right away. We decided we weren’t going to do it anymore. I feel really bad about that, and I’ve been wondering if I need to talk to the bishop. I don’t want to make any mistakes because my goal is to go to the celestial kingdom! Please help us. Thanks.

Hi Mb. I'm happy you posted your question here. Physical attraction is not sinful. On the contrary, it is a gift God has given us to help men and women come together in marriage. Obviously, we should avoid sinful acts at all costs! Additionally, we should be careful not to intentionally cultivate sinful thoughts. We should not, for example, intentionally fantasize about doing things that should only occur between husband and wife. However, being physically attracted to someone we love is perfectly normal. It is not a sin.

The kissing you described is dangerous because it can lead to sin. It's good that you stopped. However, I do not believe you have done anything that would require you to speak with your bishop.

I hope this answer helps! Congratulations for your dedication to doing the right thing, even in the face of the kinds of temptations that are common in young love. God bless you.
