Hello, my name is Felipe, I’m 16 and I’m from São Paulo, Brazil, and I have a question about “eating”. That’s: I can’t drink tea, ok. But all tea? I can’t drink apple tea or ginger tea? I went to the doctor and he told me to drink ginger tea! So, what do I do? I mean, I can’t drink milk, so… Tea? Explain me please, what type of tea I cannot drink? And what type of food I cannot eat? And why? How can I avoid to drink it? If in my family people love coffee?! Sorry for my ignorance, it’s because I’m becoming a LDS right now, and I’m a little confused for how can I act. Thank you very much… =d

Felipe -- congratulations on becoming LDS. My son served a mission in Recife and my other son in Salvador. You can drink herbal tea -- and I would assume that apple tea or ginger tea is herbal. Make sure that it does not contain black tea. I was a convert -- and I had some of the same problems. No coffee -- but you can have hot chocolate, herbal tea. You should not have alcoholic drinks including wine, but you can drink juices -- apple, grape, orange, papaya, mango, etc. -- as long as they are not fermented. You should not smoke or use drugs -- or anything that is bad for your body. Try to stay away from caffeinated drinks, but that is just a suggestion. The Word of Wisdom is just a way of telling and helping you to keep things that our bad for our body (temple) out of our body. Our body is like a temple and we should try to take care of it and keep it healthy and clean -- that is the purpose of the Word of Wisdom and that is how you should consider the foods you eat.
