Hello. My name is Fabio, and I’m 18 years old. I’m not a member of the LDS church, but I know the church is true. My problem is I can’t talk to anyone about the church. I read the Bible and Book of Mormon, but for various reasons I can’t attend church or talk to any missionaries. I had a friend who is a member, but he’s living in the United States right now. I used to talk a lot with him. I told him my problems, and he listened very carefully. I work a lot and study, but I’m very unsure of myself. I’ve been having problems with addiction and depression. My friend told me that the LDS church could help me develop myself spiritually and become a better person. I’m dying to know the church better. Many boys my age are going on their missions, but I feel I shouldn’t quit my studies. I hope you can help me. Thank you very much. All of you are excellent people.

Hi Fabio. Thanks for the question you recently posted on my website. I know that you've expressed some concerns about your family in the past. I hope your family will allow you to visit the LDS Church. We would love it if you could participate with us in our Sunday worship services.
I'm happy that you have such a good friend who has helped you with your challenges. Many people don't realize that, for a Mormon, sharing our beliefs about Christ's restored Church is a sign of great affection and friendship. Your friend must like you and trust you very much since he shared his most sacred beliefs with you. It's wonderful to have a friend like that.
Your friend is right in thinking that the Church helps us develop socially and spiritually. I myself am naturally somewhat shy, but the Church has helped me learn to reach out to other people. I would not be the person I am today if it weren't for the influence of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel. That's one of the many reasons I love the Church so much.
If you're suffering from medical depression, I recently wrote an article that might help you. Depression sometimes has spiritual consequences, and the Church can help you overcome those spiritual challenges. Perhaps someone at the Church could also help you find a psychologist or psychiatrist, if needed, who could help you with the psychological challenges that come with depression. I hope you get the help you need, Fabio. You deserve to feel better.
The Church's missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics.
Though Mormon men are strongly encouraged to serve missions, no one is forced to do so. It's a choice some members of the Church make. In your case, even if you can't serve a mission, you can still join the Church. I wouldn't let concerns about serving a mission stop me from joining the Church, if I were you. Besides, men can serve a mission up until their 26th birthday. Perhaps you could serve after completing your studies.
I encourage you to visit with the missionaries or to visit the church as soon as possible, Fabio. The Church could be a rich blessing in your life. Best of luck.
