I have a couple of questions. Can a woman wear pants to church? What if your partner isnt religious. How does that affect me with the Mormon Church? Can you have pictures and crosses, and statutes of the Virgin Mary and Jesus? If you were baptised in a Baptist Church but chose to leave can you ever get baptised in a Mormon Church? Thanks

Hi Debbie. Please forgive my delay in getting back to you. I moved from Utah to San Diego, so it's been a crazy two weeks! Let me answer your questions.
A statue of Jesus Christ at temple square in Salt Lake City.
1) There's no rule in the church that a woman can't wear pants on Sunday. I occasionally see some women in slacks, for example. But traditionally men wear white shirts and ties, and women wear dresses or knee-length skirts. Right or wrong, for many Mormons this particular dress code ("Sunday best") has come to symbolize our respect for God. It's important to point out, though, that no one would expect someone who's visiting the church to know about any of this. You can wear pretty much anything you like. People will just be happy you're visiting!
2) It's great when husbands and wives can participate in our worship services together, but it's quite common for only one to be interested in religion. That wouldn't prevent you from being a fully participating member of the church if you wanted to.
3) Culturally speaking, Mormons don't typically use the crucifix as a symbol of their faith, but there's no rule against it. While we have a tremendous amount of respect for the Virgin Mary, we also don't typically have statues of her in our homes. On the other hand, Mormons love religious pictures and statues of Jesus Christ. In fact, the famous Christus statute in Salt Lake City is a widely recognized symbol of our religion.
Jesus Christ was Himself baptized in the Jordan river to provide an example for each of us. (Reflections of Christ)
4) Mormons respect the baptisms performed in other religions, especially because those baptisms symbolize people's commitment to Christ. But we believe that it's also important to be baptized by someone who has the apostolic ("priesthood") authority that Christ gave to His apostles anciently. Consequently, anyone who joins our church is baptized again, even if they've been baptized previously in another denomination.
I hope this answer helps. Please do let me know if you have any additional questions. You might also want to chat with some of our missionaries or visit one of our chapels Sunday morning (9:00 AM) to see how we worship. I'm certain you'd be welcome. God bless.
