How would one go about converting? I am a confirmed Catholic, but I recently read the Book of Mormon and feel like I’m discovering the truth. I don’t want to just claim to be a Mormon just because I agree and believe your stories and principles, so how would I properly become a Mormon?

Hi friend. Thanks for your recent question. I've been a Mormon for many years, and it's brought a lot of peace into my life. I naturally get excited when others express an interest in joining. I hope you find the same joy that I've found.

I recently wrote an article describing the steps one should follow to join the LDS Church.

The Church's missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics.
To become a member of The Church of Jsus Christ of Latter Day Saints, one must be baptized by someone holding the authrity of God. The best method of doing this would be to use the Metinghouse locator and attend the meetings. While there Speak with the leadership, who can direct you to the missionaries responsible for where you live. They will visit you in your home, as you are avaialbe and discuss with you how to prepare to be baptized. Best of luck to you, and have a wonderful day!

Great question! I was born into the LDS faith and was 'suppose' to know everything and live the perfect life. Didn't happen, but I, like you, came to a point where I couldn't live off of the 'borrowed faith' of my parents and grandparents.

I also wanted to know for myself...

Said His prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon in Alma 32:26 - 28

26 Now, as I said concerning faith—that it was not a perfect knowledge—even so it is with my words. Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge.

27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

28 Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

Says His prophet Malachi "and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts"

(Old Testament | Malachi 3:10)

Obviously we Can test the Lord and see if He isn't true, as well as His church. Don't judge it by the mortal members, but by the core of its doctrine. Study the Book of Mormon and Pray to see if it is true (moroni ), than do it again and again.. you will know it is true, (Like I know now) be patient and diligent.

The Church's missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics.
The greatest way of becoming a Mormon is to talk to missionaries. They would be more than happy to further your knowledge past The Book of Mormon. At first, talking to them might be strange, but I can assure you that talking to them will be the greatest change of your life. Not only will taking the missionary discussions make you life greater, but it will help the missionary. Currently my sister is on a mission, and daily there are people who reject what her companion and she are preaching, but the people who open up and ask questions have helped her feel closer to God. I hope this helps and I hope that you will be able to get in contact with some missionaries!

That one's easy. Simply click the "Request a Missionary Visit" or "Chat with a Missionary Online". Essentially, to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you need to meet with the missionaries who will teach you the basic doctrines of the faith. Once you receive those basic teachings and have a desire to join the church, you can be baptized and confirmed a member of the church. It's really quite simple and the missionaries will walk you all the way through it.

You had a good impulse there, since you really can't become a Mormon without joining the church officially (same as becoming a Catholic). Here is a link to the page on this website that explains the steps you must take:

I am a convert myself from a Catholic background. I think you'll find many things in common between the faiths. Good luck! ¿_¿

Your first step would be to request to meet with Missionaries. They will start lessons with you, and you can go from there! Go to https://www.allaboutmormons.com/outbound/request-missionary-visit.php to fill out the form for Missionaries to contact you. Good luck and I am SO glad you are thinking of making this wonderful step in your life!

You would request to be taught by the missionaries and then if you desire to join the church and agree to abide by the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ you can be baptized.

I would recommend you locate your local LDS church and ask to speak with the missionaries. They can talk with you about the church.

First you would need to meet with the missionaries and hear their message. They can then arrange a meeting with a local Bishop who will interview you to make sure that you do have a testimony. If he satisifed that you do, then a date can be set for your baptism. You can check out mormon.org to find missionaries near you.
