Hi! I’m a woman, and I recently decided to serve a full-time mission. I’ve been preparing, but lately I’ve been feeling some attraction for other women. I’ve never acted on those feelings, but I don’t know if it would be right for me to go on a mission. Can you help?

Chastity: What are the limits?
Hi friend. I'm happy you have a desire to serve a mission! I served as a missionary 12 years ago, and it was such a blessing in my life. My faith in Jesus grew so much, and helping other people was truly a privilege. I hope your desire to serve continues strong!

If you feel compelled to act on your same-sex attraction, it would perhaps be best to delay your mission. Missionaries, whether heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual, must have self-control. If your feelings are mere temptations that you don't intend to act on, they shouldn't keep you from serving a mission. Most human beings have sexual feelings at least occasionally. Temptation itself isn't a sin; we only sin when we act on those temptations.

Perhaps your Bishop could provide additional support. I hope you chat with him soon. Best of luck to you, sister!
