I have an ex-bodyfriend who was a missionary. He just came home, and I’d like to get back together with him. I’ve been wanting to go to the mormon church for some time, not just because of him but because I’m interested. My family doesn’t accept my decision, though, which has made it difficult. Any advice? What time are your meetings?

I think it's excellent that you want to go to church because you're sincerely seeking Jesus Christ, not because of the returned missionary that you're interested in. When someone joins the church because of other people, their faith is usually not strong. Their dedication to Christ rises and falls according to the friendships they have with other members. The relationships that we have with other members of the church are very important, but they shouldn't be the basis of our faith. When our faith is based on our dedication to Jesus Christ, and not on our friendships with others, that faith is much stronger and constant. That's the kind of faith that can truly change people's lives.
I'm sorry to hear that your family doesn't support your decision to participate fully in church activities. My wife, who was baptized when she was 19 years old, had similar troubles. Her family didn't initially support her decision to become a member of the church. Despite this opposition, she continued to go to church as often as possible. Her faith grew, and now she's a very happy member of the church. Surprisingly, her family, seeing the good influence the church had on her life, now recognizes the wonderful benefits that come from church membership. They fully support her membership now. Of course, not all families can be persuaded like my wife's family was, but I know that God blesses those who sincerely try to learn His will, and do it.
I recently wrote an article entitled "How can I Join the Church?" that may help you. It describes the basic steps one must take to become a member. May God bless you as you begin this exciting spiritual journey!

We would love it if you would come worship with us. You can find the address of the Mormon chapel nearest your home, as well as the times of our worship services, on the Internet. You may also wish to speak with some Mormon missionaries, who can help you prepare for baptism and eventual membership in the church. You can request a missionary visit online as well.
