I feel rather certain an Apostle changed Pope’s famous line in his talk to read, “First we pity, then endure, then embrace.” Pope’s line read “First we endure, then we pity, then embrace.” Hope someone has it…

The Church is led by prophets and apostles, just as Christ’s original church was led anciently.
Hi friend. According to goodreads.com, the correct quote is: "Vice is a monster of so frightful mien As to be hated needs but to be seen; Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, We first endure, then pity, then embrace."

A search of lds.org suggests that apostles in recent years have gotten the quote right, though it's certainly possible for an apostle to misspeak. Thanks.

It also makes a difference on where you heard the talk - If it was spoken, it is not considered official until the Apostle has had a chance to review the tape and compare it with his written words. It is very easy to stumble when speaking - I do it all the time when reading to my daughter. :) This is why sometimes the words on the video vary slightly from the written words.
