Anti-Mormon Bigotry Once Again
by -Part of being Mormon is being persecuted for Christ’s sake. As Mormons, we should never adopt a victim attitude. We should have confidence that God will be with us. However, studying and recognizing the anti-Mormon bigotry that exists in the world is productive. We should be aware of what we face, and we should let our common persecution unite us as a people. The earliest Christians faced great persecution, and yet they remained faithful to Christ. As latter-day Christians, we must do the same.
In this spirit, I’d like to republish excerpts of from a recent news release published by the Westboro Baptist Church, a Baptist Church that is not affiliated with mainstream Baptists in the United States. They announced their decision to protest the funeral of President Gordon B. Hinckley, the recently deceased president of our Church.
“WBC to Picket Funeral of the Old Fraud and Mormon Heretic, Gordon Hinckley.
Yes. WBC will picket the funeral of this old cozener…as soon as we know the time, date, and place of the funeral; In religious protest and warning; to wit: ‘Be not deceived; God is not mocked.’ Gal. 6:7. God Hates F**s! & F**-Enablers. Ergo, God hates Hinckley and the Mormon hierarchy and all Mormons without exception. All such go to Hell. Gordon Hinckley is in Hell. Without the least doubt, this fraudulent old fool has pulled his last Mormon political trick, and lied to his last dumb proselyte…”
Those of us who have had the pleasure of learning from President Hinckley know without a doubt that he has gone on to his eternal reward. Those who hate us can say what they like; we are accountable only to God, and He is pleased with our progress.
