In reading the B. O. M. The golden plates handed down to Moroni from his Father, Mormon, were again hidden away by Moroni until Joseph Smith dug then up. Where are they today ?

Hi Tj. Thanks for your question. As you likely know, Joseph used the plates for translation. Aside from him, there were over a dozen people who saw them. Eight of them signed an affidavit. Another three signed a separate affidavit. History records that a few others likewise saw the plates, bringing the total to over a dozen.
After they had served their purpose, they were returned to the angel who had shown Joseph where they were buried. Hope this answer helps.
