Okay, so I went through a very rough patch in my life. In that period time I was peer pressured into trying drugs and I commited the worst sin of all adultery. But I’ve become very Interested in becoming active in the church again. I’ve been baptized. Can I be forgiven. And if so how do I go about being forgiven. Thank you 🙂

A life of sin can be cleansed and changed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Hi sister. I'm happy you posted your question here. Sins like adultery are obviously very serious and particularly destructive, as you well know. It's so much better, both spiritually and emotionally, to avoid sin in the first place. You need to first recognize the seriousness of your mistake and feel genuine remorse. Your desire to free yourself from the stain of your sin should be so great that you're willing to do whatever it takes to recover, because the path to forgiveness is likely to be arduous.

With a renewed and absolute dedication to making things right, go and talk with your bishop or branch president. Don't try to excuse your behavior. There are two ways to "free" ourselves from sin: the true way, through accepting personal responsibility and repenting, and the false way, through making excuses. You can't have both. If you're sincere, you'll be able to successfully apply Christ's atonement in your life.

Your bishop will decide the best course to help you repent. If you were a new or very young member who didn't fully understand the gospel, and if you're truly repentant now, perhaps you could return quickly to full church fellowship. If you were an endowed member, the path to repentance may be more challenging and could even include a period of excommunication before rebaptism and a return to full church fellowship. If you're truly dedicated to freeing yourself from your past sins, you'll be eager to accept whatever course the bishop is inspired to recommend, no matter how difficult.

God loves you so much, sister, even though he's not happy with what you've done. That's why He sent His son, to help us all recover from our sins. No scripture is more beautiful than Isaiah 1:18: "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

I know that the peace that comes from repentance and full church participation can be yours if you're willing to work for it. God bless you on your journey.
