I’m a Catholic, and I want to marry a Mormon woman I know. We’ve talked a little bit about being sealed in the temple. To realize this special ceremony, do I need to become a Mormon? Or do I just need to understand and know what the Book of Mormon teaches?

Temples are considered houses of God, places of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world.
Hi Edwin. I'm happy that you recognize the beauty and importance of sealings. All the temple ceremonies, including the sealing ceremony, require a lot of spiritual preparation. That preparation includes making special promises to God, the kinds of promises one makes when deciding to join the "Mormon church." Baptism is an important step in this process of spiritual preparation.

You would need to become a Latter-Day Saint in order to be sealed in the temple while still alive. This is the beginning of what we call Celestial Marriage, being married for 'time and all eternity', not just 'until death you part.' This ordinance is the most important of all our ordinances (religious ceremonies). Mixed-religion marriages can work, but statistics show that even though people in the LDS faith tend to have a lower divorce rate than the general population, 40% of those marriages that involve one LDS and one non-LDS person end in divorce. To learn more about why celestial marriage is so important to us, you might this list of articles interesting. https://www.lds.org/topics/marriage/what-the-church-teaches?lang=eng
