I know mormons think the body is sacred and that they dress modestly and have special underwear. But what about when you go to a public swimminghall, where you shower and sit in sauna naked with strangers (of the same sex, but still). Is that allowed for mormons?

The definition of modesty revolves around the dissuasion of the wrong impression to others about our parameters of intimate intent. Modesty does not entail a cloistered existence.
Mormons wear swimming apparel, frequent venues where disrobing and public showering are necessary and participate in activities where wearing the "special underwear" would be impractical. Mormons work out, take saunas, dress to keep cool in the heat, wear speedos and even bikinis. What the conscientious Mormon doesn't do is expose an abundant amount of flesh unnecessarily.
Does a woman really need to have multiple piercings, show her abdomen, the cleavage between her bosoms, or the bottom of her buttocks to be fashionable? Does a man need to wear tight crotched pants, a sleeveless shirt, earrings or have a roadmap shaved into his hair to demonstrate his machismo?
Ask yourself what really attracts you to a member of the opposite gender? The contrived and transient trappings of immodesty or the personality, character and values of the individual?

Is it allowed? I suppose so. Should we do it? I guess that depends on each person's individual interpretation of our beliefs. I personally would not, but I know others who do. Similarly, I do not wear a bathing suit when I go swimming - I wear long shorts and a t-shirt. My husband used to swim without a shirt, but now he usually wears one.
