Why would God, if he is the God of all good things, command us to go to church out of fear? Does he want me to overcome my fears as a way to show I can overcome challenges in general?

Hi Melasita. I'm not certain I understand your question. There is nothing in the church that teaches that someone should attend church because of fear. Fear of what? The church is a blessing, not a terror.
Sister, many good people, in trying to gain a testimony of this wonderful church, accidentally gain a testimony of a fictitious church they have created in their own minds. If you believe the church requires fear, then you may have accidentally misunderstood the central message of the true church. The true church is a precious gift, sister!
You should certainly continue to attend church, but not out of fear. You should attend because of the rich spiritual blessings that accompany regular church attendance. Try to free yourself from mistaken conceptions about the church. Try to gain a testimony of the real true church, not the "true church" you may think you know. When you discover the true teachings and correct attitudes that are found in the church, you'll realize just how sweet the restored gospel of Jesus Christ really is. That will be a great blessing in your life, sister!
