Is it true that people either go to heaven or to hell? If so, before the day of judgement what happens to people?

Hi friend. I'm happy you posted your interesting question here. The Mormon view of the afterlife is a little more complex than a simple heaven-hell dichotomy. At death, Mormons believe our spirits and bodies are separated. Our bodies go to the grave, and our spirits go to the spirit world. In the spirit world, we can continue to grow spiritually closer to God. On the day of judgment, Christ will decide where each of us will be most comfortable. For example, those who wish to become one in purpose with God will have the opportunity to progress eternally under His direction and tutelage in a place we call the celestial kingdom. Those who prefer a less dedicated course that will allow them to pursue personal desires without regard for spiritual progress will spend eternity in a kind of heaven where they are most comfortable.

I hope this answer helps.
