I’m currently an atheist. I never said that God doesn’t exist. I’ve always just said that I don’t know, so I never not involved in any religion. However, now, recently, I met a young lady that I really like and she is Mormon. She told me that she liked me too and talked a lot about your religion. After thinking some and realizing I never actually firmly believed that God doesn’t exist, I told her that I’m willing to try to convince myself (I’d have to get to know your religion first), but, of course, I’m worried that I won’t be able to convince myself and we won’t be able to be together. I’d like to know if a Mormon can have a boyfriend that is not Mormon. Also, I’m still a minor, so I’d have to wait without my parents’ permission. I’m totally willing to wait if I can just convince myself I have serious doubts about what to do.
Hi friend. I'm happy you wish to learn more about the LDS church. It's common for people to get to know the church through acquaintances. It is important that you gain a personal spiritual knowledge independent of anyone else, but I'm certain your friend could help you develop that knowledge.
Someone who rejects belief in God is an atheist. Someone who is unsure about belief is properly called an agnostic. Really, we all start off as agnostic. You would hardly be alone in the church. We must develop our knowledge of God through personal study, pondering, service to others, etc. Everyone is in a different place on their spiritual journey. The important thing is only that we try our best to know God. If we just try our best, God will bless us with strengthening revelation that will help us build our knowledge.
The Church’s missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics.
Some adolescents that get to know the church aren't able to be baptized right away because their parents do not permit it. God understands these kinds of challenges. The key is to just do all you can to get to know Christ's Church so you can join once you become an adult. Meet with Mormon missionaries if you can: https://www.allaboutmormons.com/outbound/request-missionary-visit.php . Visit a Mormon chapel if possible to see how we worship. There are also some good websites on the Internet that can help you learn more about the church:
