Peace in Difficult Times
by -My name is Jay. Like all people, I’ve had some trials in my life recently. Life inevitably throws challenges our way. My faith in Jesus Christ, which has been cultivated and nurtured in the “Mormon Church,” has brought me peace in the midst of hard times.
Let me tell a bit of my story. About a year-and-a-half ago, I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder called dopa-responsive dystonia. As far as degenerative disorders go, it’s a pretty good one to get. Not as bad as Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis, for example. Nevertheless, it is been very troublesome. It’s affected my mobility, my productivity, and my energy. I had to leave medical school because of it. Additionally, my wife recently left me, which has also brought many challenges.
I’m not sharing this as a sob story. I’m sharing this as prelude to this important statement: I am happy. And it’s my faith in Jesus Christ that has brought that happiness. My challenges haven’t vanished. They’re still upsetting. But I know who I am: a child of God. And I know that no matter what happens to me, that relationship with God is unaltered. My personal value is infinite, not because I’m someone special, but because I belong to an infinite God. We all belong to that same God.
If you’re looking for peace amidst adversity–and who isn’t?–I invite you to chat with Mormon missionaries. The peace that comes through Jesus Christ has been a rich blessing in my life and in the lives of millions of others. Perhaps it can help you too.
