Hi. I’ve been a member for the past three years and now I’m in a difficult situation. Because of depression, I was not allowed to serve a mission. No I’m back on track, and I have the opportunity to get married. I’m 20 years old. The civil marriage would be in February of next year. We’ve been together for six years as boyfriend and girlfriend. I just don’t know what to do. I really love this person and I want to have kids with her and be sealed in the temple, so I can go on a mission with her when I’m 50 years old. I’d also like to serve in my ward, with callings like ward missionary, etc. We don’t plan to go inactive once we get married. Given the situation where the bishop and church offices don’t permit me to serve a mission, then, can I et married? My depression is now a lot less and I really love this person.

Hi Omar. Those who are willing to serve missions but cannot because of medical conditions like depression are entitled to all the same blessings that ex-missionaries receive. You were willing to serve, brother, and God will honor your righteousness. You certainly can be married, and in the temple if you prepare yourself appropriately. I hope this answer helps. God bless you on your spiritual journey.
