My son has custody of his 2 children after his divorce of a civil marrige his wife first cheated on him with a so called family friend and the became a Lesbian!!! He has repented of his drinking and drug days and is about to become an Elder. The question is Can he have his children seal to just him? It is VERY important to h to be able to do this. He has multiple medical problems and has been hurt by too many girls that he does not think he will marry again. I have asked the Bishop nut he did not know the answer. Thanks for you help

Hi friend. What a difficult situation your son is going through! My sincere condolences. I actually know of another man who went through a similar divorce. I can think of few greater challenges.

It's excellent that your son is returning to full church activity. He needs the church now more than ever, especially given his unique challenges. A lot of people might turn to drinking and drugs in a situation like his. How wonderful that your son is instead turning to God. I'll pray for him.

According to my understanding, there is only one circumstance where a child can be sealed to a parent that is not themselves sealed to a spouse, and that is when a couple has their sealing cancelled. In this case, the children continue to be sealed to their two parents, even though those parents are no longer sealed to each other. As far as I know, children cannot otherwise be sealed to a single parent (though this website seems to suggest otherwise, so you may want to chat with your bishop or stake president for further information).

However, I think a quote from Elder Oaks applies here. Elder Oaks explained that those who through no fault of their own cannot be sealed to a spouse in this life will be denied no blessings in the next life if they keep God's commandments and accept Christ's sacrifice. I think the same thing applies to sealings with children. God will not deny your son any blessings if he's faithful to his covenants. Our Heavenly Father will certainly work out the details in the end. Best of luck to you.
