Hi, I’m actually doing a study on Mormons and I wanted to know how women felt in the Mormon faith, if they fought for or against polygamy… Thank you

Hi friend. I'm happy you're interested in learning more about Mormon history. Just to clarify, Mormons abandoned polygamy over 100 years ago. Any Mormon practicing polygamy today is excommunicated from the church.

Back in the 19th century, there were many different opinions about polygamy. As with monogamous marriages, some polygamous marriages were happy, and some were not. However, it is true that many women activists in Utah strongly advocated for polygamy. The Utah territory was one of the first to give women the right to vote, but the federal government revoked that right in part because Utah women at the time tended to vote in favor of polygamy.

Because other wives could help take care of children, polygamy allowed many 19th-century women to pursue careers in fields like medicine. Mormon women were among the leaders of the feminist movement in the 19th century as well. Hope this answer helps.
