I 26 years old, and I am trying to be a faithful member of the church. I am also a big “MMA” (mixed martial arts) fan, which is probably the fastest growing sport in the world. I often watch MMA events presented by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). Do you think a good member of the church should avoid watching these types of event? Thanks for sharing your view. JC

Hi Jean-Charles. Thanks for your question. I appreciate your sincere desire to be a faithful member of the Church. That's a worthy goal we're all trying to achieve! :)
I'm certain the Church doesn't have a specific policy regarding MMA. You'll have to decide for yourself whether MMA qualifies as something that is "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy." Some contact sports require a lot of self discipline and hard work, and so perhaps can be considered "praiseworthy." Other activities, of course, celebrate gratuitous violence more than self discipline. I'm afraid I don't know enough about MMA to be able to classify it. Perhaps others can provide more informed opinions. Best of luck!

MMA is a contact sport just like boxing and other martial arts. Mormons box and train in marital arts these are wholesome activities and strengthen the body and mind.
One of the ways that martial artist strengthen there skills is by competition fighting. Competition fighting is not immoral nor wrong if you fight fair and follow the rules or the competition.
MMA is no different than other martial art completions. They test the skill and endurance of the competitors and provide entertainment for the audience. There are rules and regulations to prevent injury and a physician observes and can call the fight for the safety of a competitor. '
Some might consider MMA irreverent but if they do they better not have any children studying marital arts then.
In my opinion I see not problem with watching a MMA event or participating in on as long as it is done Monday - Saturday and you observe the sabbath day and keep it holy!

You are free to watch what you will watch, but, who knows, the fact that you posted this for help, may be the Spirit telling you something? Maybe Ether 12:27 can help you. Who knows, maybe God is trying to tell you where a possible weakness of yours may lay?
