I’ve been a member of the church since 2000. I received my endowments 6 years after I was baptized, but I broke the law of chastity before marriage, stopped wearing the garment, and went inactive. After a time I married a friend who witnessed my baptism. He’s catholic, so we got married civilly, not in the temple. He doesn’t know about the endowment. I’ve started coming back to church and I’m taking the sacrament again. My question is, how should I proceed? Please help me. I don’t want to talk with my bishop because I’m ashamed. Temple Square is one of Utah's most visited attractions, drawing millions of visitors a year.
Hi friend. Congratulations for your decision to come back to the Church! That decision can provide you with a great deal of spiritual peace if you're persistent. You didn't mention whether or not you have children. If so, I encourage you to raise them in the Church as well. Children need a good religious education; that education can bless them throughout their lives.

You shouldn't be ashamed to talk with your bishop. The main job of a bishop is to help people recover from their sins by applying the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Your bishop will be happy to help you. His job isn't to condemn you. His job is to help you reconnect with Jesus Christ.

Since you did break the law of chastity, it's important that you confess your sin to your bishop. Otherwise, the guilt associated with that sin might follow you for the rest of your life. Repentence, on the other hand, brings spiritual peace that can strengthen and bless you.

I encourage you to also talk with your husband about the purpose of the temple convenants and the garment. Prepare him for the day when you start wearing the temple garment again.

God bless you, sister. Remember that spiritual blessings come not by chance but by hard work and persistence.
