I would add that studies have shown that mormons in the United States live 5 to 10 years longer than the American average. This longevity is thanks in large part to our particular dietary customs, abstaining from alcohol being one of them.

Many health benefits come from avoiding alcohol and the dependency that often follows. Apart from that Mormons avoid alcohol completely because of a commandment from God through modern prophets. We believe in living prophets who give us directions from God to protect us and help us to have the blessings God wants to offer us.
When I found out several years ago that my liver is weak and I would not have survived a surgery had I damaged it by drinking any alcohol, it became much more of a blessing to me that my family had decided to join the church and accept the counsel of God's living prophets.
Hello there! Thank you for using our website and questioning. The reason why we don't drink alcohol it's because it is not a healthy drink. We preserve and respect our bodies, as the Lord said he abides in our bodies as in his holy temples. Our bodies need to be pure so we need keep away the chemicals substances found not only in the alcohol but some other drugs. We believe that we will be blessed with health and so do the doctors if we handle it carefuly not abusing of any kind of food, drink or substance. And that's it! The reason why we don't drink is just to preserve our health and keep it pure from the things of this world. I hope I answered your question! Feel free to ask about anything else or request more details about "why can't mormons drink alcohol."

God revealed to his church that alcohol is not meant for the bodies he has loaned to us for our mortal probation. Science, and even history, have proven that alcohol can damage areas of our mortal body and with it being addictive in nature, a person can literally be destroyed.. If not directly by alcohol damage, than by the effects it has on a person's ability to think clearly and act appropriately.

The reason you see is simple. We have what we called the "Word of Wisdom." It is guidelines that our prophets have set in for us to follow it is simply for our own good. There is logic behind it, many horrible things happen to people when they drink and it is to protect us and to keep us on the straight and narrow pathway to return to our Heavenly Father. He loves us and this is a way for him to not only protect us but for us to prove we can be obedient and follow his rules. We do not drink simply because we are asked not to.
