God revealed to his church that alcohol is not meant for the bodies he has loaned to us for our mortal probation. Science, and even history, have proven that alcohol can damage areas of our mortal body and with it being addictive in nature, a person can literally be destroyed.. If not directly by alcohol damage, than by the effects it has on a person's ability to think clearly and act appropriately.

The reason you see is simple. We have what we called the "Word of Wisdom." It is guidelines that our prophets have set in for us to follow it is simply for our own good. There is logic behind it, many horrible things happen to people when they drink and it is to protect us and to keep us on the straight and narrow pathway to return to our Heavenly Father.
