My boyfriend is a mormon and I’m a Christian. What will this mean for us? I’ve never looked into the beliefs of Mormons, can you briefly some up some of them for me? I read something online about polygamy, but not all mormons practice this, do they?!

The North Visitors' Center on Temple Square has an 11-foot replica of Thorvaldsen's Christus on display.
Hi friend. I'm happy you visited my site to find answers for your questions. No worries about polygamy. Mormons stopped practicing it over 100 years ago, and any mormon with more than one wife now days is excommunicated. The "mormons" you hear about on TV who practice polygamy aren't actually members of our church, and most have never been members of our church. They are members of small break-away sects that left the LDS Church many years ago.
The "Mormon Church" is actually a beautiful Christian religion. It's true, however, that it is a unique kind of Christianity. Mormons don't accept the creeds established after New-Testament times, for example.
Given that mormons are Christians, they believe in many of the same things other Christians believe, including:
Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
The Bible is the word of God.
People should love one another.
Since we're not Catholics or Protestants, we naturally have a few beliefs that are unique. Most of the differences between the various branches of Christianity are small. One significant difference relates to the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that shortly after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian church was heavily influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and politics. Despite the efforts of many noble men and women, the true Church of Christ was lost because of these external influences and internal changes realized by the hands of men. Mormons believe that God restored the original Christian Church, together with the authority to act in His name, in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.
If you ever want to learn more about our beliefs, I encourage you to chat with your boyfriend or with the mormon missionaries. You're also welcome to visit one of our chapels any Sunday to see how we worship. We love to have visitors.

Members of the Church believe that marriages performed in temples are "sealed," or blessed to last for eternity.
No no don't worry! Polygamy was practiced about a hundred years ago, it is no longer in our belief system. But being a Mormon is also being a Christian, so we do have some of the same beliefs, we believe in Christ and we believe He died for us. He died for you and for me, He did so many things, including bringing the truth to this world. We have temples also, maybe your boyfriend has shown you or told you about them. We believe that they are like the Lord's home. There are many important things that happen in the temple, which are so sacred. One of the most important beliefs we have is that of marriage in the temple. We believe that if you get married in the temple not only are you lawfully and legally wed, but you are sealed for time and all eternity, it will never be 'til death do we part'. That is why if you ever go to an LDS funeral, yes we are sad to say goodbye but we know its only for a short while. We are sealed together as families, fathers and mothers are sealed to their children, parents and to each other, so that we can be together even after death. If someone truly loves someone they will want to spend eternity - without end - with each other and the temple gives us that opportunity. I encourage you to talk with your boyfriend about the temple. I know that what I have spoken to you is true, and I love going to the temple and feeling the spirit, it is one of the greatest gifts someone could ever ask for. I invite you to ask your boyfriend to take you to the temple grounds and just feel the beauty in your soul. I hope this was of help for you.

Hi, thank you for your question! You've also got a good person next to you (your boyfriend) to answer all your questions! We Mormons are Christians - ''We believe in God the Eternal Father, in his Beloved Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost'' - 1st Article of Faith. Our church has a living prophet who receives revelations from Heavenly Father to help guide His children on the earth. Because of this guidance, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not practice "polygamy" any more. We believe in all that God has reveled, all that he does not reveal and we believe that he will yet reveal, many great and important things. I hope have answered your question. Please let's us know if you have any other unanswered questions!

What the web-master has said already is all correct, I just wanted to add our last church president's words which were in essence, "Bring all the good you already believe and know and see if we can't add to it."
Good luck, and perhaps it is God that has lead you to finding this site where your questions will be addressed honestly. Pray about it.
